Madea’s back in an all-new movie! A Wall Street investment banker has been set up in a mob-backed Ponzi scheme, forcing him to be put under witness protection with his entire family in Madea’s house down South.
In this video I go on a dark and starry overnight pulk sledding winter campout with my modified Nemo Transform Tarp Tent and Mr. Heater Little Buddy propane heater. I test out heating this small tent and share some tips and tricks that have helped me camp in the winter over the past few years. And there’s a little bit of gear talk too. I’m a gear junkie!
***WARNING – Please remember to always use caution when using a propane heater in a tent. Remember to always allow enough air flow for you and the heater and a way to vent out of the top of the shelter. I highly recommend using a carbon monoxide detector and only running the heater while you are awake. Read and follow all directions for the proper and recommended use of your heater. I am not an expert in the use of this or any propane heater and I’m not responsible for anything that occurs to you as a result of improper use of said heater.***
I just did another great winter backpacking/pulk sledding trip but this time it was a night hike. I finally got a chance to get some snow time in and try out the snow flaps my wife and I added to the Nemo Transform to keep out the cold winter weather. I love using the pulk sled and being able to just pile in all the gear I need without worrying about having to carry it. I got a late start around 5 pm and had the whole trail to myself. I had a beautiful, dark and starry filled sky and I only needed my headlamp for the last mile. It felt like it took longer to dig into the 1.5 foot deep snow to set up my tent, using my little pack shovel, than it took to hike out there. LOL. I was ready to fire up the Mr. Heater Little Buddy Propane Heater and thaw out so I could get dinner started and settle in for the night. I made sure I had proper ventilation to feed air to the heater and vent out the top of the shelter. I also had a Carbon Monoxide Detector but it made me nervous to run the heater in such a small space so I really didn’t sleep that night. It only took 2 fuel canisters to get me from 9:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. running the heater constantly. I even had some fuel left over in the second fuel canister.
Heating the Nemo Transform Tarp Tent with a propane heater proved to be a little more difficult than I thought. Most of the heat settled about 2.5 feet above the ground level but the overall temp in the tent was still great compared to outside. Next trip I plan on propping a small fan behind the heater to blow hot air down to my bed. At one point my bed height was registering 26F by my head and just a foot and half above me it was 50F. At night I used the inside peak of the tent to dry my gloves and in the morning I used the heater to thaw out my shoes and laces to comfortably put them back on and start packing up my gear. I’m afraid I spent most of this trip video talking about my gear. Everything performed great from the sled and harness to my heater, stove, clothing layers and sleep system. The video kinda turned into a “Gear Talk” segment.
If you have any questions about the gear I used on this trip just drop me a line or two in the comments section below. Don’t forget to Like, Comment and Subscribe!
